The 27th of February is World NGO Day. This day commemorates the actions and impact of non-governmental organizations on society.
Tomorrow, the first of December, is World AIDS Day. On this day, we raise awareness about HIV and AIDS. To highlight this day, we interviewed two employees, Amalia and Vasilis, from Thess Checkpoint, the HIV prevention centre in Thessaloniki. They told us more about their work and stigma around HIV and AIDS in Greek society. We also got tested for HIV ourselves to see how the process goes.
Today it is Bi Visibility Day, also known as International Celebrate Bisexuality Day. The day was established in 1999 and takes place every year on the 23rd of September. The day is used to make bisexual people more visible and to celebrate the bisexual community. In this article, I discuss the history of this day and why it is important.
Today it is International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition. UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) first declared this day in 1998. The purpose of the day is, as the name says, to commemorate the tragedies of the slave trade. It also intends to break the silence around slavery and the slave trade.
