Saving our beaches: a day cleaning in Neoi Epivates

World Environment Day, celebrated on the 5th of June, is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. The theme of this year’s World Environment Day is Ecosystem Restoration. Litter, plastics, and other pollutants cover our beaches. They affect the environment, destroy marine life, and even make people sick. It is important to understand the devastating effects of pollution on our beaches and the environment. But, sometimes, it is also important to take action (even if it is on a small scale).

Volunteers from Balkan Hotspot (United Societies of Balkans), and Iasis Amke Athens went to Neoi Epivates with a ferry from Thessaloniki and cleaned the beach with gloves and bags. We found lollipop sticks, cigarettes, bags, and litter. Join us on a trip through our camera, where you will not only find trash but also laughs and shared moments.

Sharing is caring!
